Reauthorizing and Refilling a Prescription with Repeats Remaining

If a patient brings in a prescription for medication that is already on file with repeats, assuming the drug strength, dosage and SIG are the same, the new prescription overrides the old one and the old repeats are lost. It is best practice to inform the patient that they will be losing their repeats from the previous prescription on file.

To refill a prescription that has repeats remaining with a new prescription:

  1. Search for and select the patient.
  2. Select the Profile tab.
  3. Select the prescriptions that need to be refilled.
  4. Select the Refill button.

    The Ready Time window appears.
  5. Enter the appropriate Ready Time.
  6. Select OK. The Rx Detail window appears.
  7. Validate that the prescriber is correct.
    • If it is a different prescriber, the prescriber information needs to be changed. To learn more, see Doctor Change.
  8. In the QA field, enter the new authorized quantity and select the tab button on the keyboard.
    • The Rx Detail status is updated to Rx: ReAuth.
    • The QD field is updated to 0 (zero).
  9. In the Qty field, enter the quantity being dispensed.
  10. Verify remaining information.
  11. Select Fill to process the prescription. A validation message appears to confirm that existing refills will be void due to Piggyback rules.
  12. Select Yes.
